Trolling is a very effective method of finding sport fishing by covering lots of water in the North Atlantic Canyons.
By finding temperature breaks using Satellite charts a boat can stay in the correct zone where their lures will be most like to have a bite.
Daisy Chain of lures to help catch TunaThere are a variety of lures and baits people can troll in their spread behind their boat. Many fishing boats pull squid spreader bars with splashers or teasers so that it gets the attention of fish and they come to see what all the commotion is and if there is food. There are also smokers or poppers that make bubbles or air trails in the water as they skip across the surface. These techniques make it look like a school of fish is frantically trying to escape a bunch of predators.
On our last trip we caught plenty of Yellowfin tuna that were hitting not only squid bars but also rigged ballyhoo. Ballyhoo is a great dead bait that you secure to your line and many species such as Tuna, Albacore, Marlin, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi and Mako sharks find irresistible.
